Imphal, December 28:
A brief encounter took place between a team of commandos of Bishnupur police station and some unidentified suspected UGs near Kumbi Saiton hills this afternoon around 12.20 pm in Bishnupur district.
According to an official source, the incident occurred when a commando team of Bishnupur district was patrolling the area after receiving word of the presence of UGs in and around Kumbi village.
As the said police team while approaching the Saiton hill at around 12.20 pm this afternoon, some unidentified persons suspected to be UGs fired upon from the hilltop.
The commando team retaliated and the UGs retreated after a running gun battle for about 15 minutes.
There was no report of any casualty on either side and the UGs made good their escape.
Heavy reinforcement was rushed to the area and conducted search operation till 4 pm this evening but there was no report of any arrest.
Meanwhile three activists of the PLA including one woman activist were arrested by the state police.
According to police source, one L Briten alias Alex (22) of Khongjom Keithel Maning Leikai was arrested yesterday from Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai at around 2:30 pm by a CDO party of Imphal west during frisking in the area.
Later on the police party arrested C Heramot Singh (54) of Konjeng leikai Lamdong from his residence along with two telephone receivers used by the PLA organization.
In the mean time one woman activist of PLA identified as T Ambra Devi (23) of Thonju part II was arrested by a police team of Singjamei PS and Imphal west police from Thongju part II while frisking in the area.
